Reevaluating priorities
June did not go to plan. A whole new trajectory emerged, Swey went off piste, and, well… Here’s a very quick recap:
Things that happened in June
Between 7am and noon on Monday 1st June I somehow spotted, visited and paid the deposit on a tiny painting studio: not on the to-do list for the month, though on every long-term vision board I’ve ever created. This new space has been practically and emotionally life changing, making me reevaluate all my Swey development plans and priorities.
Last month I also got my first painting commission - permission (which I needed) to devote time to painting alongside my Swey work.
My repetitive strain injury keeps flaring up whenever I spend too long in front of a computer, so the painting studio has become a healing space I didn’t know I needed - where expansion, creative freedom and physical movement are a given.
Despite loving the weekly Open Studio and First Light sessions I started to feel myself tipping towards burnout again, and so have paused them both for the time being to focus on completing things, while also making sure there’s rest and balance in the mix.
The 4 big client projects (an e-commerce website, a website elevation, videography and a personal brand elevation) that started in May have all over-run - mainly due to the heatwave and everyone’s lives being busier than expected. They’ve all, in different ways, been a joy to work on, and will finish in July.
One quick win that did get completed was a beautiful new e-commerce website for my feller, which we busted through together in (almost) a weekend - www.mathewpauljinks.com - so his very lovely new ceramics collection can sit alongside the Jinks Pottery teaching school.

So - life is full of surprises. And, increasingly, I come to feel that the more true we are to ourselves, and the more space we dedicate to that truth, the more things we hadn’t allowed ourselves even to imagine might be possible appear.
